Review guidelines

We publish negative reviews

A review is never rejected, hidden, delayed or reordered because it is unfavourable. We do not filter by star rating anywhere on this site, and businesses cannot pay to have a review removed. Paid placement, where it exists, is labelled “Featured” and has no effect on which reviews appear.

How a review gets published

  1. You submit a rating and review with your name and email address.
  2. We email you a confirmation link. Your review is not read or queued until you click it. Unconfirmed reviews are deleted after 7 days.
  3. A person checks the review against the rules below. This is the only filter applied.
  4. Published reviews appear on the business’s page. Once a business has three or more published reviews, an average rating is shown. Below three we show no rating at all, because an average of one or two reviews is misleading.

The only reasons a review is rejected

This list is exhaustive. Every rejection records which reason applied.

  • Spam or advertising
  • Off-topic — not about this business's tree work
  • Profanity or abuse
  • Contains personal information
  • Unverifiable factual claim
  • Duplicate of another review
  • Not a first-hand customer experience

What we ask of you

  • Write only about work you personally hired the business to do.
  • Do not review a business you own, work for, or are related to, and do not review a competitor.
  • Leave out names, phone numbers, addresses and anything else that identifies an individual.
  • Stick to what you can describe from your own experience. We remove specific factual claims we have no way to check.
  • One review per business per person.

Corrections and removals

If you spot a review that breaks these rules, use the “report this review” link on the listing. If you are a business owner and believe a review is fraudulent, report it the same way and tell us why — we will look at it, but we will not remove a review simply because you disagree with it.

Never on this site

We do not write reviews ourselves, do not accept reviews written by businesses about themselves, do not buy or sell reviews, and do not generate ratings from anything other than real published reviews submitted by real people. Where a business has no reviews, we show none rather than inventing a score.
